We provide a shortcut to the land cover map WMS service provided by the Ministry of Environment's Environmental Spatial Information Service. A land cover map is a type of thematic map. It is a spatial information database that classifies the shape of surface features according to established scientific criteria, color-indexes areas with similar characteristics, and then presents them in map form. Because land cover maps best reflect surface phenomena, they are widely used in various fields, such as estimating nonpoint source pollution loads based on surface permeability, urban planning through biotope mapping, simulation of downstream flood damage due to dam discharge, climate and atmosphere prediction modeling, and environmental impact assessments. They also serve as a scientific basis for central and local government environmental policymaking and are utilized as research material in various academic fields. *The concept was established in 1985 by the European Environment Agency (EEA) in the CORINE (Coordination of Information on the Environment) project, a project to build a European land cover map to comprehensively collect and manage vast amounts of information on the land conditions of member states in the EU. Based on this, classification criteria suitable for the Korean situation were determined, and in 1998, the Ministry of Environment built the first large-scale land cover map for the South Korean region.
