식물내한성이란 식물이 저온에서 견디는 정도를 의미하며 과수는 기후, 특히 겨울철 저온에 따라 재배 가능지역이 나뉜다. 과수의 내한성 등급을 식재 예정지역의 내한성 등급과 비교하여 과수 재배 안전지대 여부를 확인할 수 있으며, 등급값은 식물이 저온에서 견디는 정도를 가지고 분류하였으며 과수원이나 조경수 등 새로운 식물을 재배할 때 이 지역 값을 이용할 수 있다. (약10년주기 제작)
