대구마라톤대회는 2001년 3km 마스터즈 대회 시작으로 2008년에는 엘리트 부문 풀코스를 도입하며 국제 대회로서의 위상을 강화하였고, 2013년부터는 세계육상연맹(WA)의 공식 인증 라벨대회로 운영되고 있으며, 특히 2021년에는 코로나19 팬데믹 상황 속에서도 국내 최초로 해외 엘리트 선수가 참여하는 버추얼 레이스를 성공적으로 개최하였으며, 4만여명의 마스터즈가 참가하는 국내 유일의 세계육상연맹 골드라벨 대회로 자리매김하고 있습니다.
참가종목은 엘리트 및 마스터즈 풀코스(42.195km), 마스터즈 하프코스(21.0975km), 10km, 건강달리기 등 다양한 종목으로 구성되어 있습니다.
또한 대구마라톤대회는 단순한 스포츠 이벤트를 넘어, 더 나은 세상을 위한 세계육상연맹 지속가능성 전략의 6대 원칙에 동참하며 국내최고 국제대회로 거듭나고 있습니다. The Daegu Marathon began as a 3km Masters race in 2001, and strengthened its status as an international competition by introducing an elite full course in 2008. Since 2013, it has been operated as an official certification label competition by the World Athletics Federation (WA). In particular, in 2021, it successfully held a virtual race with the participation of overseas elite athletes for the first time in Korea despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and has established itself as the only World Athletics Federation Gold Label competition in Korea with over 40,000 masters participating. The participating events consist of various events such as the elite and masters full course (42.195km), masters half course (21.0975km), 10km, and health running.
