II 권의 주요내용은 우리가 사는땅(지형, 지질, 토양을 통해 우리 땅의 아름다움과 다양성을 고찰), 더불어 사는 생명(인간과 더불어 살아가는 각종 생명체를 식물, 동물, 생태로 나누어 상세하게 서술), 물과 공기(우리의 일상생활에 많은 영향을 미치는 기상, 기후, 수문, 해양을 심도있게 기술), 인간과 환경(경제·사회·산업 활동이 만들어 내는 각종 환경 변화와 오염 그리고 그 문제들을 극복하기 위한 노력 서술) 4개 분야로 기술
III권은 지난 수십 년간 이루어진 도시 개발과 사회 인프라 건설을 통해 경제, 사회, 문화, 기술이 급속도로 발전하면서 국토에도 많은 변화가 일어났습니다. 이처럼 빠르게 변하는 우리 국토의 특성을 기록하고 알리기 위해 인문적 특성에 초점을 두어 기술하였습니다.
